Rediscover the Web with FireFox

Have you used Mozilla Firefox yet? It’s a free web browser that many consider superior to the old standard web browser, Internet Explorer, by Microsoft. I have been using Mozilla Firefox, or Firefox for short, for several years now, and have enjoyed it alot.

I started using Firefox in Highschool, after being introduced to it by a friend. Previously, I had only used Internet Explorer, and the crummy AOL browser. It took me a little while to get used to Firefox, but when I finally started using it all the time, it clicked. My web browsing experience has never been the same. The largest different I noticed at first with Firefox was that it allowed for easy tabbed browsing. Basically, you can keep multiple web windows open at once, and switch between them without having to minimize the program. It saves on memory, and allows for much speedier Internet surfing. The second big difference was that Firefox allowed you to download ‘plugins’ or ‘addons’ created by other people, that can do everything from instantly translate foreign languanges on a web page to monitor spyware to allowing Gmail to act as a external hard drive, and so on. These addons really help set Firefox apart from it’s closest competitor, Internet Explorer. Also, it is supposedly more secure than Internet Explorer (IE), and I’ve seen my IE get corrupted thanks to spyware, but my Firefox stay safe and operatable.

While the vast majority of Internet users still seem to use IE, more …

Top Websites of the Decade

The worldwide web affects the life of millions of people, and its influence grew greatly during the past decade. A worldwide online classified advertisement site, the best known search engine in the world, the most popular video website in the world, and the world's largest online encyclopedia made up some of the top websites for the decade. What sites were the most important for the decade of the 2000's depends on what Internet list you read, but this article contains some of the top sites, in no particular order of importance.

One website that is at the top of some lists for the top websites is Craigslist.org. What was once a local ad service has become the biggest online classified advertisement service in the world. One can find or sell almost anything, give something away for free or get something for free, buy or rent a house, search the personals, or do any number of other things.

For those who want to know about the quality of products or service they will receive at a particular business, Yelp.com was one of the top websites of the decade. The site contains reviews by ordinary people of restaurants, spas, nightclubs, places to shop, and many others, all across the country. If you use the site, you will no longer trust the opinions of one person's opinions before going to a particular establishment.

One site that is on more than one top ten list is Flickr.com, which was founded in 2004. The site …

Websites That Offer Free Card Game Downloads

Are you board with the two or three card games that came on your computer. If your ready to expand to new card games there are some sites with free card game downloads. You can find just about any card game that you are looking for on the Internet. All you have to do is go to the site, find the game your looking for, and click on the download button. You will be prompted to save the game on your computer. When it is finished downloading you will get a box that pops up and asks if you would like to make a icon on your desktop, and if you would like to start the game.

Here are my top site for card game downloads:

Romance and Mystery Novel Review Web Sites

With my family being such avid readers, particularly my daughter, I recently discovered two websites that can help with our reading quest. They are www.theromancereader.com and www.themysterreader.com

My local librarian had just discovered these two web sites, and was sharing information with her patrons about these two Internet addresses. As we are weekly regulars at the library, she let my family know about them. When I arrived home, I was sure to check them out.

The first one is www.theromancereader.com. My daughter, thank goodness, is not yet into these types of novels. So this site was purely for my interest.

The main purpose of the web site is to offer reviews of top romance novels. The reviews are broken down into three categories: historical, contemporary, and fantasy. Their rating system is unique, with hearts being used. Five hearts is a definite keeper, four hearts means the book is recommended, three hearts is acceptable, two means think twice, and one hearts tells the reader not to bother reading the book. They also break the books down into categories. These categories are: G for love scenes but no sex; PG for sex scenes that aren't explicit; PG 13 for a little bit more descriptive, but not yet graphic ; R for very descriptive and lots of love scenes; and NC17 for a book you wouldn't want your kids to read, or your spouse or – well you get the idea. I thought it was very unique that the reviews and ratings were …

Paid-to-Click Web Sites Do Not Live Up to Expectations

Paid-to-click sites have become increasingly popular in a world full of Internet income schemes. Along with paid surveys, rebate processing, and affiliate programs, paid-to-click sites have ensnared thousands of users worldwide. However, many first-time users wonder if these "too good to be true" web sites are worth the time. It's a good question with a complex answer.

Paid-to-click Web sites usually offer no more than $0.01 per click. To earn this small sum, a user must click on an ad and view the page for a designated period of time. Thirty seconds tends to be a pretty generic number, but the time an ad is viewed occasionally correlates with the amount paid. So, you click on an ad and view it for thirty seconds. You have no spent thirty minutes viewing an ad, and you earned $0.01 for it. Anyone capable of simple math can see that the numbers do not add up to a substantial income. You will more than likely spend more money on your Internet and electricity bills. Several methods for earning more money in a shorter period of time have been developed, but most of these methods are dishonest.

Like many other Internet income schemes, paid-to-click Web sites are often scams. The Web site receives money for advertisements, but refuse to pay the users for viewing the ads. Also, many of the paid-to-click Web sites have referral programs, and most sites also let you purchase referrals. Some referral packages cost hundreds of dollars. At this point, …
